NATALIE JOHNSON
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
FASHION BUYER IN LONDON
My journey spans the bustling streets of London and the sun-soaked shores of Sydney, two places that have shaped my vision and passion for fashion, e-commerce and technology.
With a background rooted in Fashion Buying, I later moved into the world of Fashion Tech, I've always been captivated by the intersection of style and innovation. From launching a sustainable marketplace, to fashion rental and re-sale B2B product, to digital-first projects and to navigating the ever-evolving world of e-commerce, I have built a career on recognising trends, elevating brands and staying one step ahead of what's next.
It has been a wild journey that has taken me around the world, from keynote speaking at conferences, to getting into two startup accelerators, moving to live in Milan, being interviewed in Forbes magazine, featured on a billboard in Times Square in New York, attending fashion shows, having private tours of some of the worlds biggest designers archives in Rome, being quoted in books, radio shows, podcasts, raising capital and much much more...
SPOTLIGHT ON SYDNEY
However, over the last few years, I have split my time between the UK and Australia - and I kept noticing friends asking me what brands I was wearing, what skincare and makeup I was using... It made me realise there was a desire to have Australian brands overseas. There is a distinctive ease and freshness to Australian style - and a growing global curiosity to discover more of it.
I have realised though, that it's not just my friends - there's a wider shift happening. With events like the Australian Open (tennis), and the Formula1 Grand Prix in Melbourne, now bringing in international influencers and creators who are actively seeking out new designers to promote, the demand is growing even further.
THE NOE
The UK in particular has lost a bit of its fashion soul - I remember when I was a Buyer and we'd head to Oxford Street for inspiration. You'd note the windows, the newness dropping in the shops and see how women were styling pieces to get a pulse on what was trending. But now? The magic has faded. Shoppers are faced with an IKEA, tacky tourist shops and mobile phone kiosks. You are left with the high-end designers along Bond Street or Zara and not much in between. Meanwhile, Australian retail nails that middle ground, with collections that are stylish, considered and accessible.
What is clear is there are some wonderful Australian Brands and fashion houses that the wider world needs to take note of. THE NOE is here to support the industry by bringing a curation of the best of the best together.
